Sorry, but yes, the
West is boring. Those aren't
Phil's word, they're mine. I never thought I'd say it, especially this season, but is the
East fun or what? If it weren't for the
Lakers, the West would be so unimportant right now. For the first time ever, a 50-win team got the 8th seed, but for the first time ever, a 50-win team got swept in Round 1.
In fact, three of the four series in the West are already done. While I'm happy the Lakers pushed the
Nuggets off the edge before they could even react, that series had promised to be real exciting. Offense versus offense, going at it, head-to-head. The first two games were fun (especially the first!), but the last two were just sad (for the Nuggets, I mean – what a bunch of
quitters). And how about the other series,
Mavs and
Hornets.
Jason Kidd versus
Chris Paul; old versus new. The only thing that series did was show how old and dumb the Mavs are and make a guy, or soon to be two,
lose their jobs. And
Suns and
Spurs? That was another series that showed a lot of promise. The
NBA champions versus the team that traded for
Shaq to beat those NBA champions - how awesome was it that they met in the first round! The only thing exciting about that series was the first game, and also watching the Suns plummet into oblivion too. That was quite enjoyable, because everyone knows how much LA hates the Suns – but I personally wanted to finish them off, I wanted the Lakers to be the team to make
Mike think about resigning, not the stupid Spurs.
Rockets and
Jazz? That's the only series still going on in the West, but that matchup is getting old. I'm only semi-interested in it because the winner will play the Lakers.
Look at the East. Only one series is over, the 3rd seed versus the 6th seed. That had the potential to go on longer, but it didn't. Instead, the two series that most everyone said would end the quickest are still going strong - especially the 1st versus 8th seed. The East wasn't separated by seven games like the West was, the East was separated by nearly thirty. But even from that separation, the
Hawks have a chance to tie the series during Game 6 in Atlanta Friday night. Who saw that coming? The
Celtics, the team a lot of analysts thought would throw down
Phil's 72-win record with the
Bulls at the start of the season, that team is fighting to get into the second round? And the other team that most everyone thought would play the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals had their first home game stolen from them, and they're still fighting to get out of Round 1 too? And how about that 4th seed versus 5th seed series where there have been hard fouls after hard fouls each game.
LeBron has been laying on the floor longer than he has been sitting on his throne! That series is just as much intense as the other two, if not more. The East is full of drama, no one knows what the hell is going to happen. The West may have been fun during the regular season, but so far, the East is what everyone is watching. Though, to show some word of support to the West, these struggles in the East show just how superior you guys are – you guys know when you need to knock down your opponents, and you get it done. So good job.
This whole thing kind of depressed me, I just put down the West. But, that doesn't mean they can't redeem themselves during Rounds 2 and 3! I bet the Hornets versus the Spurs will be a real fun series – and so too will the Hawks versus the
Wizards, haha. But of course, the best one will be the Lakers versus the Jazz. Who actually thinks the Rockets will get out of this round? I did, but I changed my mind because a Jazz Round 2 would be so much fun.
Fish thinks so too. And their arena over there, damn,
just looking at it scares me; that first section is so long. And also, if the Rockets end up winning the series, the Lakers would host them Tuesday night, and Tuesday night games suck. I have class. Okay, I'm not depressed anymore, I'm excited for the Jazz/Laker game this Sunday! haha. And to excite you up, Phil Jackson went on
PTI today to talk Lakers. It's the first time he's been on since the Pau trade, so they had to talk about
Kwame/
Pau stuff. The PTI guys also ask whether Phil thinks that this team is championship-worthy like his other ones, though Phil kind of dodges the question, haha. Watch it below, streamed, or download it at its page,
here. Alright, I'm done here. But before I go, I wanted to wish a very, very, very (late) Happy Birthday to our favorite Jerome, Mr.
Jerry Seinfeld!
"It's Fusilli Jerry!", haha. The man turned 54 yesterday, wow. He's a BIG Laker fan. No really, he told me when we spoke on the phone last night. Said he hates the
Mets too. Alright, I'm done. Take care everyone, hope you had a happy April. see u.
