Will the Curse be broken?!
Saturday, April 19, 2008 @ 8:45 PM PDT
Carmelo Anthony in LA on January 21, 2008Yes, you guessed correctly, that photo is of Denver Nuggets Forward Carmelo Anthony passed out drunk on the Staples Center floor. The kid's got a lot to learn – you might be able to get away with these kinds of shenanigans in good ol' Syracuse, but not here in sunny Los Angeles!

So after a week of teams with seedings that were too close to call, all teams are now matched up and eight of them played today. Though this year's Playoffs will be very exciting, no one in LA cares about any other series more than the one that will start tomorrow at noon, a game that Imadul somehow got tickets to – that's two games straight, Ima! It'll be just like last year when you went to Kings and Nuggets back-to-back April 1 and April 3! The Lakers are of course the Number 1 seed. The Nuggets squeezed into the 8th seed after a meltdown by the Warriors (and their win over the Warriors didn't hurt the Nuggets either). Will there be another 8 vs 1 upset? Hell no. Ima found seats that are closer and cheaper than the Warrior game we went to last month, and this is a Playoff game. So how we got it for so cheap, I have no idea. But we're going, Insha Allah, so I'm not complaining. He's still in Santa Barbara right now, and it's a 12 o'clock tip-off, so let's see if he makes it on time, haha.

But it may not be the most brilliant plan for us two to go to this game, the first game of the series, and of the Playoffs, for this awesome Laker team. You see, Imadul and I are cursed. We are cursed with the Curse. What is the Curse? Let me explain, but let me warn you, if the story of the Curse causes you to vomit out of your ears, don't blame me, I'm warning you now. Over the last two seasons, Imadul and I have gone to a combined total of six games. Of those six games, we went to three of them together: Nuggets (4.3.07), Magic (12.2.07), and Warriors (3.23.08). In all of those three games, the Lakers were the losing team. But, the three that we went to separately: Kings (4.1.07), Clippers (2.23.08), and Kings (4.15.08), the Lakers man-handled the other team, averaging over 21 point victories in each game. And that, my friends, is the Curse: we are 0-3 at Laker games together, but alone, we are 3-0. ESPN and ABC have both been giving out stats all day about the percentage the winning team has of winning the series, and although the numbers kept changing every time they put them up, it's a pretty high number. So let's hope the Curse breaks tomorrow.

Not everyone says it'll be an easy series. A lot of people are pointing out that this year, an upset won't be as surprising because there are only seven games separating 1 from 8 in the West. Those people who think that the Nuggets might upset aren't even taking into account how the Lakers are 3-0 against Denver this season, winning with over 15 point victories in each game. But that stat is misleading, though in the good way, as in the first game of the season we torched the Nuggets by 28, way over the season average of 15. And to add to our resume, we didn't even have Pau Gasol for those three games, and we were Bynum-less in the last game of the season when we beat them by 17 (his number!). Those same people who think the series won't be easy for the Lakers are forgetting that we finished this season off 7-1, grabbing the No. 1 seed which makes us officially the hottest team in the West.

Now, I love First Take, especially the 1st and 10 segment. I often find it more enjoyable to watch in the mornings than SportsCenter when the Rugrats episode on Nicktoons is crap. And I love Skip Bayless, I just love how he always puts down LeBron, haha. But Skip has often times put down Kobe as well; can't have everything I guess. Anyway, Doug and Ryan Stewart were on the segment yesterday and one of the topics was this same Nuggets/Lakers series and if an upset was possible. Both Ryan and Skip decided that the Nuggets would get the upset! And they never see eye-to-eye! They both went on to say that the Mavs would upset the Hornets (something that I'd enjoy, though I hate the Mavs), but today the Hornets proved that they can very well handle the Mavs. So I won't argue with Skip and Ryan, mostly because they can't hear me, I'll just let you watch the segment below and tell you to catch the Laker game at noon tomorrow on ABC. Let's then see who wins. Oh, and a note about the game, it won't be on FSN, it's a Sunday game. Though FSN and KCAL will have them, along with TNT, during the week. And I updated the Index/splash page to show the series between us and the Nuggets, location, time, and dates. I hope you like it. No I'm off, we got a big day ahead of us! A quick happy birthday wish to Matt, you don't read this site, but Happy Birthday! Also, our favorite, and only, Hermione Granger turned 18 on Tuesday – not the character, she's been 18 almost 11 years now - so a very, very Happy Birthday to you, Emma (Azkaban is on ABC in HD right now!)! Alright, take care everyone, especially tomorrow because we all know what tomorrow is! see u.
