What a day, what a day. Yesterday I mean. Did you forget? Ima and I went to the Warrior/Laker game. 11th row seats! I even rented a Canon 100mm f/2 from LensRentals.com just for the occasion! Please tell me you remembered.
Either way, I'll tell you about what happened. As you may have known, every year there's a Fiesta Lakers event: full of Lakers, food, games, and Mexican music (what's a fiesta without Mexican music?). Well it was Ima's and my first Fiesta Lakers so we didn't realize how packed it would be. Turns out, the line to get in was a half-mile long, stretched all around the Staples Center and into the Convention Center. It was quite a sight, I'll tell you. Even though Ima and I had tickets, we didn't feel like waiting in such a huge line – well we did, but just to pass the time, haha - so we gave the tickets away. We got paid a hefty amount for them too, I'll tell ya'. We went to Plan B instead.
No, Plan B is not some night club in Downtown, it was our next idea. We decided to scrap the getting autographs part of the day (who the heck wants autographs anyway...) and go to the D-Fender game. We were going to do so anyway, we just got a little head start doing so this way. You may be asking yourself, when's a D-Fender? To that I'd reply, it's not a "when" idiot, it's a "what" – even a "who" would've been acceptable. How in the hell did you come up with a "when"? Wow. Anyway, I'd reply the D-Fenders are the Lakers' Development team. You see, there's a minor league under the NBA called the Development League where players play to get ready for the big league, the NBA. Two current Lakers came from the D-Fenders, Jordan Farmar and Coby Karl. Two loved players. Anyway, if there's a D-Fender game on the day of the Laker game you have tickets to, you can go to the D-Fender game for free, and that's what we did (pathetically though, we saw some two old ladies that bought D-Fender tickets specially...), and boy were we happy we did so. No one was there. No one. Probably 50 people, max. Because of that, we got to sit so close! Ima and I got behind the scorer's table, mid-court! Having no one in attendance didn't only help our view of the game, it also go us to be part of the half time show! That's right! Ima and I were the half time entertainment at the D-Fender game! We competed with these two other people at free throws, and we whooped them! (we didn't, but we can say we did because no one was at the game to remember) We got a few goodies too, haha. Got some great shots to boot! Plus, Ima's new favorite D-Fender, Cecille Brown, looked at him when he yelled "UCSB"! But you know, I'm leaving almost the best part out....
What, there's something that beats going onto the Laker floor draining free throws for the world to see? Hell yah there is. Guess who just happened to walk passed us while we sat behind the basket waiting for half time? None other that Sasha Vujacic and Pau Gasol! I'm not even lying! We even shook their hands! Ima even talked up a storm with Pau, everything from the current situation in Darfur to the political race! Pau is one smart cookie. Ima even got out of him that he'd be showing up soon (which seems to be about right because now ESPN is reporting that Pau may be back as early as this Wednesday for the Bobcat game). They were both dressed very nicely as well. Two great guys they are. Unfortunately, Ronny came out later but some dumb black lady didn't let me pass to get his autograph (for some reason, we totally forgot about the pens in our pocket when Sasha and Pau came around). I was even wearing my Ronny jersey! I will forever hate that black lady. Forever and ever. And the worst part? The only other Ronny fan in Staples Center got his jersey signed by him. That black lady didn't even care! I had a talk practiced for Ronny and everything! Ah well, next time, next time.
After the D-Fenders destroyed the T-Birds (Albuquerque) in the fourth, there was a break until the Laker game. During the break, Ima and I got stuff signed from my favorite D-Fender, Jelani McCoy, and No. 24 Wendell White. They signed our hats that we got for playing half time. After the break, we got to our seats. Boy were they damn close. Could've been closer of course, but they were damn close. And it was a good thing we went to the D-Fender game because I practiced my shots with the rented lens – all the shots came out awesome. It was a long day up until then and we were tired, but when the Staples Center started to fill up and the Lakers came on the floor, boy did our tiredness magically disappear! The game was beyond awesome! The first half was a big let down, and not just because of the "Los Lakers" uniforms, we had horrible defense. We gave them a record high for opponents this season, 72 points to our 49. It was pathetic. But whatever PJ said in the locker room helped because the Lakers came out and held the Warriors to 15 points in the third while we got 32! The fourth quarter was amazing. We hardly sat down. Nothing kept us from staying on our feat, not even the nagging idiot behind us in Row L Seat 4. Wow was she annoying. It all came down to the final few possessions. I don't want to say exactly what happened, let's just say Stephen Jackson scored more 3s than Kobe did. Let's just leave it at that.
In the end, the Warriors had more points and so they won, giving Ima and I a record of 0-3 at Laker games (Nuggets, Magic, and now Warriors). But it ain't over because tonight we get to take revenge on those Oakland nuts; the Lakers are in Oakland right now getting ready to destroy them for what they did to us last night. And since last night a super-doozy, tonight will be even more of a doozy; those Golden State fans are insane. It'll be on KCAL9 and NBATV tonight, starting at 7:00 on KCAL9 with LTV. It will be an awesome game. But as for last night's game, Ima and I had a blast. I put together a photo album (probably my fastest ever in the history of photo albums)
here. Imadul's photos can be seen
here. Enjoy both! Until next time everybody. see u.
