Very often
60 Minutes manages to come up with great and controversial topics to talk about on its weekly show, most of the time the timing is impeccable, but other times, well, other times the timing is just random. Last night's episode was just like that.
Bob Simon interviewed this ex-radical Muslim named Hassan Butt; don't let the name fool you, he's a really smart, good guy. In the interview, Hassan Butt speaks about how he and his other British Radical Muslim brothers were tied to
Al-Qaeda and what they actually did in Britain. He explains that he personally recruited seventy-five people to be sent to Pakistan for training against the West, people as young as seventeen; there were thousands of other recruitees other than his own. He explains why he and the others did what they did and why they never thought twice, because they were convinced that what they were doing is what was right and is what God wanted. And most importantly, he explains how he came to the realization that it was wrong and what he is doing now to help others come to the same realization and understand why it is wrong - the London suicide bombings were his wake-up call. In the interview, Hassan beautifully puts his feelings on terrorism in Islam, he says that people are in denial if they feel that Islam has no connections with violence and he calls killing for the purpose of killing a Cancer that is affecting many Muslims around the world and it must be stopped. Hassan is currently in the process of writing a book, and when it Insha Allah comes out, I will be sure to let you guys know. Every weekend, my Dad and I sit down and watch 60 Minutes, assuming it covers a good topic. Now, my Dad and I don't exactly see eye-to-eye on many things, but we both feel that this topic is very important, at least for us. His points are very good and I am looking forward to his book... but how sincere is he? I trust him wholeheartedly, but my Dad had a slightly different take on it. Perhaps it's an act of some kind causing others to see him as an innocent man when it is quite the opposite, but let's not become too pessimistic. And of course, I uploaded this interview so if you want to catch it, go here - it's great for everyone. So enjoy this download.
Now for the words, I really hope you guys are getting this at home... won't tell you why, haha. So, like always, get them
