| Friday, November 30, 2007 @ 9:15 AM PST - Google's done it again! |
|
Before my post, how about them weatherpeople. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't hear anyone saying that it was going to rain today - in LA at least - and then this morning it starts raining and the weatherfolks on TV act as if they've known about it for days; they make me sick, but not from pneumonia, haha. The reason I'm complaining is because I planned to paint the rest of my car today, but if it's all wet... it makes it pretty much impossible, you know? But don't worry, I'll figure something out.
But more importantly, how about them Google! First it announces plans to put down billions of dollars for the bid on the 700 Mhz spectrum in late January 2008, currently occupied by analog TVs found in kitchens across America. Then it convinced the FCC to make one of the five blocks of that spectrum to be open access, meaning that an array of wireless devices can connect to it so that the winner of the auction can't make everything proprietary. Then Google teamed up with a whole crew of wireless companies, from T-Mobile to HTC, Sprint to LG, even eBay and Intel are involved; and they developed the Open Handset Alliance, creating open standards for phones so that big companies don't make everything proprietary, like crappy Verizon does. Then the OHA announced its first project the same day of its inception, aptly titled after the mobile handset company Google bought a few years ago, Android, the newest mobile phone platform based on Linux, meaning its open source. Android will probably turn out to be the next big OS for phones, the title that Windows Mobile and Symbian now hold (and both of which are not involved in the Alliance), pushing the technology envelope further and further. And after all of that, Google still wasn't done. It's upped its free Gmail disk space to over 5GB (and growing) - which also now has Group chat! - and now there are rumors of an official free online storage space service from Google. And most recently, as seen in the graphic, Google came out with Google Maps for mobile v.2.0 which adds a My Location feature that pinpoints your location within a mile, for non-GPS phones. See that blue dot in the middle of the graphic? That's me on the PCH at Sunset yesterday morning - it pulsates! How do they do it! They use the cell towers - but they do not keep any information on our location, keep that in mind. If this doesn't prove that Google is amazing, I don't know what will. It just never stops recreating itself, it really is an amazing company.
So enough kissing up to Google, I doubt they'll give me a job, let's move on to sports for a second. Before the Lakers destroyed the Nuggets last night in the fourth quarter, 24 - 46 (hot damn!), and before Melo was thrown out of the game for choking Sasha (Melo better get suspended, that great jump shooter), Phil Jackson signed on for two more years, equaling 24mil. So in other words, neither Phil nor Kobe are leaving the Lakers anytime soon, and not only that, Bynum and Farmar are sticking around too because they were extended for another year last month. But before Phil got a raise, the other Kobe, Coby Karl (you know, the new white kid I like a lot), was sent to the D-Fenders to tone up his skills. His first game was yesterday, they won and he had 19 points. Because he was signed to the D-Fenders Wednesday, Coby couldn't play in the game with his dad watching from the sidelines yesterday - but his dad probably wouldn't have been rooting for him anyway as we all know his dad is the head coach of the Nuggets, a team, if you didn't understand the first time I mentioned it, we pulverized into a fine powder last night. That 46 has to be some kind of record for us, right? It looks like it is for this year. The next Laker game is tonight in Utah and then the next home game is Sunday night against Orlando. And guess what. Ima and I are gonna be sitting in the stands! He'll bring the Howard jersey and I'll bring the masking tape, and we'll get another "Sux" jersey going on, haha. But there probably will not be any photos from my side as I won't be taking my camera - I'd rather enjoy the game than worry about it getting taken away from me during the game like last time. Ima will probably take photos though, won't you? Good. There's another big, magical Sunday game going on (forget the Saturday afternoon UCLA/ USC game), one that I really wanted to go to - but the problem is it's all the way in New Orleans. I would have to wait until around 4 PM Pacific for the game to end and then take a quick flight back to LA to catch the 6:30 PM game in LA - pretty much impossible (like I'd go all the way to New Orleans even if there were no Laker game, haha). But I'd like to take this time to hype up that game when the Saints take on the Bucs at the Superdome. It's going to be a big one. In the NFC South, Bucs are number 1 and Saints are number 2, and the Saints need to win the rest of their games to ensure a proper Wild Card spot (I'd prefer sixth place personally). But either way, it's a division rivalry game, and the outcome I want will be a tie in first place in the NFC South. Chris Pursell is out skiing, so I have no idea what the percentage is on the broadcast, but I doubt LA will be getting the feed anyhow. But the next game, in Week 14, is a Monday Night game in Atlanta, yay! Let's aim for a .500 Saints team for that game. Oh, and I saw This Christmas with Josue yesterday (it was his choice, Jo loves his black comedies!) and I enjoyed it - one of those feel good holiday family movies with a lot of drama. I enjoyed it. Okay, that's all I have for you guys today. Happy Birthday Ben! You haven't made anything cool lately, but you're still great! Until next time everyone, see u. |

| Sunday, November 25, 2007 @ 10:00 AM PST - So, how many stores d'you buy? |
|
Firstly, I hope you guys all are having a very, very, very happy Black Friday weekend. Saved a couple hundred thousand dollars on turtleneck sweaters, each, I hope. I myself wasn't able to go out and purchase mass amounts of things I do not need, mostly because I would have probably bought everything inside of Fry's and half of the things inside of Best Buy. I, instead, enjoyed my Black Friday by sitting in my driveway, sanding down my bumpers and primering them. Who needs to pay Maaco a couple hundred to detail my car when I can do it myself for so much cheaper! So far, so good, but I'm still not done. Need to buy more R97 Roma Red paint, I'll have photos after the project is all complete, Insha Allah. To continue the weekend, I went to the Auto Show yesterday with my cousins (yesterday was also Josue's birthday! - or Imadul's, don't remember). First time I brought my 350d with me to the show, but I didn't fancy taking too many photos, oddly enough. I did however spend a good twenty minutes inside of the John Cooper's '08 MINI. Security had to yank me out of the baby. I love that car. I'm planning on making the Cooper S my second car around Summer time, Insha Allah (maybe sometime in the second week of July... hmm?). I didn't like the MINI II until yesterday, still not sure if I'll get the MINI I instead though. And I vomited when I saw the Clubman, by the way. But I want it in dark blue with black/blue interior. With red rear-view mirrors, I have just the shade in mind, R97 Roma Red to honor my Civic. Not too sure what I'll do with her yet though. I did end up taking 200 photos from the show though, half of which were my cousins' two kids, haha. I picked out 60 good ones, but I'm still debating whether I should put them up. I still have to put up this skating shoot Chad, Kevin, and I had back in the first week of October. Boy am I behind schedule. Anyway, I hope your Thanksgiving went well also, I'm not a big fan of turkey, but I am a big fan of turkey shows/movies, which I don't we got a lot of this year. But that only means the Christmas movies are starting earlier, and to start us off we have TNT showing A Christmas Story at 8 PM, and again at 9:45 for those of you that are going to watch the Laker Game! I didn't like that movie as a kid, but I love it now. TBS always shows it on Christmas day, twelve back-to-back showings in fact - all Christmas day, let's hope this year as well.
I was meaning to post this up yesterday (or even Friday), but that last minute Auto Show plan came up (literally, last minute, I was primering my bumpers and my cousin calls - I was all ready to start on my power door locks/alarm system, I guess that'll have to wait - and I'm not complaining by the way). But to honor Black Friday, I put up the second season of Kenan and Kel - there's even a turkey episode (episode 11) for you to feast on! The last two episodes of the season are the episodes I remember most from the show, the one where Kenan has to move away to Pumice, Montana leaving Kel all alone in Chicago. I think I cried at the end of the first part (it was a two-parter). They end the season with the second part. Noggin (or rather, The N during the night, and will be taking over GAS New Year's Eve) started airing episodes of Kenan and Kel since the middle of October of this year. I caught it the other day, it was the episode where Kenan hires two people to pose as his parents when his principal calls for a meeting with them. That one's great, haha. That idiot mom cannot figure Kenan's name out! haha. That's episode 1 in the second season. Anyway, if you want to relive your childhood, you can download the episodes from the first and second seasons in three flavors, here. I will have the last two seasons up in due course, Insha Allah.

| Sunday, November 18, 2007 @ 10:00 AM PST - Saints strive to hit .500 |
|
Before I start, where the hell did all the Zunes go? I couldn't buy one even if I wanted to right now! I guess I have no choice but to wait for December, damn. Okay, now for the post.
The date was April 29, 2006, in the city of New York. A few guys were sitting around in a big room, some important, some not - the important guys were people like Joseph Addai, Laurence Maroney, Jay Cutler, Devin Hester, Maurice Jones-Drew, Matt Leinart, Vince Young, and Reggie Bush, to name a few - what a great collection. It was just about to start, all the important guys have been working out for weeks to get good spots, and the teams have also been working themselves for weeks to find the perfect additions to their team. Then the time came, Paul Tagliabue came out to announce the Draft was just about to start, Houston was up first, due to a prior-season record of 2 - 14. Who was the one that all the smart people said would go number one? Mr. Reggie Bush, of course. A few long minutes rolled by, nearly everyone was confident Reggie would be jumping on a plane to Texas. And then the time came. Paul came out and announced it. "For their first overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, Houston selects, Defensive End, Mario Williams". The crowd in the hall was silenced. The crowd in Houston was outraged. People all over the country jumped out of their seats, tackled their neighbors, fell out of planes - it was a horrible announcement. But then things calmed down a bit and it was time for the second worst team to choose their next player, the New Orleans Saints with a 3 - 13 prior-season record took its turn. Reggie was sitting there, somewhat stunned he didn't go first when nearly everyone in the room assured him that he would, and he sat there and he waited. Paul came out again a few minutes later. "With the second pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, New Orleans selects, Running Back, Reggie Bush". And that was it. Not with the Draft of course, Vince went third to Tennessee, Leinart dropped to tenth with Arizona, and so on and so forth - but that was it, Reggie went second and Mario went first.

| Friday, November 16, 2007 @ 4:55 PM PST - The Coen Brothers are back |
|
I couldn't decide between that graphic and this one. I settled with the one that looked more awesome.
Every morning I tell myself, you're a pretty big Coen fan, Asim. Then time passes and I ask myself, which Coen? I later respond to my question with, both of them, you idiot. So now that it is clear that I like the Coens, nothing could have prepared me for their new film, No Country for Old Men. Don't get me wrong, it was unbelievably awesome, but I was not ready for what it delivered.
Josue and I (to celebrate either his or Imadul's Wednesday birthday - I never remember - Happy Birthday by the way) went to the Laemmle Theatres in Santa Monica behind the Third Street Promenade to catch their new film; it was released last Friday, the 9th, but because it was a limited release, this was one of the four places in LA playing the film, and the only one where traffic would not be horrendous when the film ended. And besides, who would ever pass up looking at the ocean? Jo has not seen a Coen film before, though I was under another impression, so I was hoping that this would turn him into a huge fan. I myself haven't seen a full Coen film in quite a while, while O Brother, Where Art Thou? shows up on HDnet Movies from time to time and I catch parts; so I was really looking forward to this one, their first feature film in a few years (they had the Tuileries segment in Paris, Je t'aime with Buscemi that was pretty cool; by the way its DVD came out on Tuesday). The Coens have always delivered, whether it be with comedy or crime or violence or romance, or even all four, the Coens have always delivered. I knew that no matter what, we would not be disappointed. And we were not - for the most part. Of their major films, this is the only one that is exclusively adapted from a single novel - O Brother is based off of Homer's Odyssey epic poem; it turns out that the Coens are very loyal to their adaptations' original authors. Which is good, but can also be bad; there are reasons why books are books and movies are movies, but I don't want to get into that because then it'll be as if I'm mad at the Coens, because I'm not; they created an amazing movie.
I'm sure most people have no idea what this movie is about (or that it even exists), so I'll explain a little bit of it, trying my best not to spoil any of this awesome, awesome film. There are basically three main dudes, Ed Tom Bell, played by Tommy Lee Jones; Anton Chigurh, played by Javier Bardem; and Llewelyn Moss, played by Josh Brolin. Ed's the cop, Anton's the killer, and Moss is the guy running away. Right off the bat, I felt as if this film was a mix between Fargo and Blood Simple. - two amazingly great Coen films. Fargo because of the crime story involved with the cop versus criminal, and Blood Simple. because of all the blood and suspense; but when it's all said and done, none of these films are like any of the others. It takes place in 1980 Texas and, for the most part, follows Moss after he comes across a few things that do not belong to him. You see, while Moss is practicing his hunting, he comes across a few trucks in the middle of the Texan desert with their Mexican drivers and their "man's best friend" dead, bullet holes and all. Moss discovers that one of the trucks' beds is full of heroin and that nearby there is another dead Mexican with a satchel filled with two million dollars in cash. So what is a poor guy with a wife back at home (a mobile home) going to do? Take the money of course. Take the money so that his family will never have to worry ever again. But there's one small problem, that money he found does not belong to him, and the person to which it belongs is not too happy about his money getting stolen. That's where Anton comes in. Anton has to be one of the most badass characters in any story - ever. Both his actions and his looks scare the crap out of anyone who is near. I urinated in my pants three times in fact. Just kidding, I think, haha. He's pretty funny too - funny in a very strange, psychotic way. He's a great character. Anyway, Anton goes after Moss, and after Moss figures out he's being pursued, he urges his wife to skip town and go to her mother while he takes care of Anton. Moss is a real stubborn man. Stubborn but smart. But that's a good thing, you gotta love the guy. But the thing is, Anton is unstoppable. He's a killing machine. He has no idea what Moss looks like, and he doesn't care, all he wants is the money. And his weapon, oh his weapon; it's beyond amazing. Anton is without a doubt one of the most intense enemies ever. And this story is without a doubt one of the mot suspenseful every. And that's basically the movie, Moss taking the money and running, and Anton chasing after him.

| Tuesday, November 13, 2007 @ 4:40 PM PST - That was embarrassing.... |
|
You know, I don't care much that I was extremely (and I mean horribly) wrong about my Sunday predictions (0 - 2 for the weekend) two days ago, I'm more sad at the dreadful loss. I mean, who would've thought going into the game, the Saints, number 1 in offense last year, number 6 this year, even after the 0 - 4 start; would lose to the Rams (0 - 8 going into Sunday) and keep them from being the first team to win five straight after starting 0 - 4. Well, not me obviously. It was horrible. Well, the first few seconds weren't that bad. We scored a touchdown in less than three minutes. But then those were the only points we had until the fourth quarter where we scored 22. That's a pretty high number of points for a single quarter (even though the record in the fourth is 31 points), but it was obviously not enough as the Saints lost and dropped them to a 4 - 5 record. Devastating loss. Just horrible. Even the mousetraps scattered by Sean Payton this weekend around the hotel with Ram colors, telling his team not to get caught in the trap, didn't help us win. I didn't get to watch it, I read it like I've been accustomed to doing, but even on paper (or screen) it was bad. The game came down to an onside kick with about 30 seconds left in the game. We were down by 8 at that point, a touchdown and a two-point conversion would tie the game - we'd already scored two two-point conversions in the game, the first by Colston and the second by Bush. We attempted three though, didn't make the second attempt because Bush was injured for a little bit. It would've been our fourth try if we could get the ball back. It was our second onside kick as well. Bullocks narrowly missed the first onside kick with about 5 minutes left, which yielded the Rams with three more points off a field goal. Bullocks missed the second one as well, but with 32 seconds left in the game, the Rams just let the clock run.
There were mistakes all over the place. Perhaps if we hadn't done the first onside kick, even though the crowd would boo, the Rams would've punted and we'd have the ball back with three less points to overcome, but we'd still need to get another onside kick. And maybe if Jason David did a better job covering Rams' Isaac Bruce, we could've had a better chance (remember, David is a first yearer from the Colts, who also did really badly in our first game this year against the Colts, not hating though). Better yet, maybe if our defense overall did a better job we could've won. If the heads decided to invest in better defensive players in the offseason, like we told them they should, we would've had a better chance of not only winning this game, but all the other games we've lost. But who knows, maybe this loss to the Rams will give fuel to our team to push harder, like the other four losses have. I don't know. All I know is we're third in the division now, tied with the Panthers (who oddly lost to the Falcons this weekend, all the teams that were supposed to win, lost - like the Colts to the Chargers) and the Bucs are first after their Bye. And they play Atlanta this coming weekend, and the rest of their schedule is dirt simple after the Redskins in Week 12. In no way am I saying the Saints cannot make it to the Playoffs now because of this one loss (the Giants and Lions are looking really good for the NFC Wild Card spots right about now), all I'm saying is it is cutting it real short. The Saints better be ready for the rest of the season, especially their Week 13 game at home against the Bucs. That game is going to be very, very important, if not the most important of their next seven games. Get ready for some fireworks, folks, because this is going to be (it HAS to be) a very hectic set of games for the Saints. It may not be the most exciting of games for most, but I know I sure as hell am going to enjoy every second of it. And even though I may have sounded pretty annoyed be the Saints in this paragraph (which I have been obviously), I still love you guys, especially you, Reggie. haha.

| Sunday, November 11, 2007 @ 10:05 AM PST - Lamar Odom's back |
|
Don't worry, Lamar's back is just fine - I meant that he's returned (and if you've noticed, in celebration of his return I've taken my image from Corbis instead of Getty Images; Getty has horrible watermarks, while Corbis, founded by Bill Gates, doesn't have as many images, its watermarks are super subtle in the corners - and this graphic is from March 18, 2007, also against the Timberwolves). That's right, Lamar's back on the court. If the Lakers were doing just fine without him, they should be doing a helluva a lot better with him right? Pretty much. Friday's night game in LA versus the Minnesota Timberwolves was pretty good - we ending up beating them by 14, it was a fun game. (haha, I sound like I was there. I want to go back!) The best part was the passing. Walton was trying to get as many assists as he could rack up but he wasn't having that great of a night, Fish and Kobe had all the assists, 9 and 7, respectively. In total, six guys were in double figures, including all the starters and Bynum ( Mihm started Friday night because Kwame's heel was all bursitised up; I laugh at how I act like I knew what that was the whole time, haha - get better, but he should be sick more often, sorry, haha). The other four guys who played weren't having the greatest night ( Farmar, Vlad, Sasha, and Walton). But it was still a sight. Balls flying all over the place. Perhaps too much passing. 18 turnovers in total. But that's alright because we were up by a pretty large margin throughout the second half, and when we're up by that much it's okay to be throwing thirty passes in a single play, haha. Fish's assists were great, but watching Kobe was pretty spectacular. He's changed. Definitely. There were many times in the game where Kobe would've usually taken the ball up and sunk a great jumper like last year, but instead, he'd pass it to Bynum for a beautiful alley oop or let Odom run baseline to get an easy dunk. And he still ended up with 30 points. Near a triple-double, 30 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists. He's getting a lot of rebounds, Kobe is. But nothing compared to Bynum and Ronny's constant fight for their rebounds. That's quite a sight - funny at first, but a little sad now, haha. And speaking of which, Bynum, Mihm, and Odom all had double-doubles, and Fish was one assist away from his own double-double. It was a spectacular, spectacular night for stats. And Odom was looking great too. I feel so at ease watching Odom palm the ball in his left hand and take it to the hoop. Oh how I love that move. With Odom back, things are looking really beautiful. The Lakers head down to Texas this week, Tuesday in San Antonio and then Wednesday in Houston. We nearly had the Rockets opening night, and now with Odom, it should be that much easier. But they're both good, real good. It's going to be a tough week because once Texas is over, they come back to LA to take on the Pistons Friday night. Then things cool down when they play the Bulls Sunday night in LA. That'll be an interesting night, Kobe versus the Bulls. The Bulls have been sucking, perhaps it was all Kobe's idea, act like he wants to get traded to the Bulls, they'll get all nervous, and they'll suck. Should've done it to the Suns instead. But we already destroyed them... but maybe that was part of his plans too! Kobe's a genius!

| Monday, November 5, 2007 @ 11:15 PM PST - Bees and honey are gold. Gold! |
|
Everyone relax, I'm not part of the WGA, so you'll still get quality writing from me, no strike for me, haha. Relieved? I'm sure you are.
We're in PST! My goodness! I hope you guys all remembered to turn your clocks forward by an hour, I hope you didn't forget! If your clock is for some reason behind an hour, move it two hours ahead before your days get ruined!
This daylight savings time ending weekend was great, why? Bee Movie! I've been looking forward to this movie for a long time - a LONG time. Usually when something like that happens, for anyone, the hype just doesn't live up (like that crappy Colts game this weekend). Totally not the case for Bee Movie. It was exactly what I imagined, and more - usually I would complain about a 90 minute movie that I really loved for being too short because I wanted more, and I did earlier on Saturday before seeing it, but it was exactly the right length. Jerry Seinfeld never disappoints. Ever. I went into it thinking it would be a pointless borderline children comedy that will do nothing but generate laughs and I left thinking it was a great comedy that generated nothing but tears of laughter - the thought of it being a child's film left my mind entirely, except for when the baby in front of us started crying, haha, it was packed with babies... but oddly no parents - just babies crawling all over the place. Just kidding, haha. There is some content in the movie that a few parents may find offensive, but only really conservative stupid ones - there are some suicidal jokes, some social/racial commentarial jokes, and the whole movie contains a major borderline bestiality-like story line, very borderline in fact, I doubt many would have came to that conclusion, haha. At one point, a very important character dies in a dream sequence, twice, in an explosion; and an elderly woman is brutally assaulted for drinking tea with honey - I found both parts beyond hilarious, was probably the only one in the theatre howling though, Sonia found it rather appalling, she almost left the theatre in disgust, haha, just kidding. She loved the movie too. I was afraid that it may contain too many resemblances to Seinfeld, a popular show you might have heard of, but it didn't. I only counted maybe two, and they were very subtle. But Jerry's style of comedy is sprinkled throughout the movie, which is probably why I loved it so much. But you don't have to be a die-hard Seinfeld fan or a die-hard Jerry fan to enjoy them either, Sonia enjoyed it a lot too, but I'm sure she's a Seinfeld nut on the inside, haha. A lot of the kids seemed to love it too. I read somewhere that children who saw Ratatouille (out tomorrow on DVD) and fell asleep, thoroughly enjoyed this animated movie. It's fun for the whole family! Non-stop enjoyment throughout. It get's a little out there with bees suing all humans for stealing honey, but it's about a talking bee, that hysterically actually looks like Jerry, and befriends a human, so how will it not be out there? I loved it. There are a lot of famous voices too, so that makes it that much more fun - all the literal "bee" references are side-splitting as well, there's this one that I laughed so hard at but I don't remember exactly, all I remember is the top of a tree... so when you see the top of a tree, that part had me on the floor. I actually jumped in my seat quite a few times. I bet I might have been pretty embarrassing, laughing at times where no one else did, haha. But we loved it. And I love how there are a lot of people who just hate the movie. I don't get that. Hating on a funny animated movie about bees that doesn't take itself seriously at all. Or just hating Jerry Seinfeld. That just kills me. It's a hilarious, hilarious movie. I know you'll love it, no matter how old.
Jerry's been making his way around the late night shows and he stopped by Conan Friday night/Saturday morning to promote it and the season 9 and entire series DVD box sets of Seinfeld coming out tomorrow (too expensive for me right now). Not only that, but he started his appearance with stand-up. I do not let an opportunity go by where I don't try to throw in that I saw Jerry in Vegas, it's so hilarious and everyone should go watch him live, so watching his stand-up is great. I enjoyed it. And their conversation was great. I love how Jerry goes around NBC acting all big and tough; well he is, but I love how he's so jokingly arrogant about it. I don't remember where I heard it but it was at the beginning of some stand-up and he's like "yes, yes! It is me!" or something like that like he's imitating the audience's thoughts in amazement. haha. In case you missed it, you can download the interview and stand-up here - but I bet Conan will air it again because of all these late night re-runs, Leno's re-run was/will be Jerry tonight, the one I have up here from a few weeks ago (and Conan had Daniel Radcliffe again, I have that one up here too). This strike is really funny, except there's no one to make jokes about it because all the comedians are part of the WGA! Conan made a joke about it on the last show Friday night/Saturday morning on this Jerry episode. They had that other voiceover guy they have who sounds extremely hilarious pointing out when things are scripted and not scripted, I remember him from double-letter week or whatever it was called, "Double L!", haha!
I don't like breaking the posts much, and that's all I have tonight. November's going to be quite fun. The new Zune comes out in a few days. Then there's Black Friday where they'll be giving stuff away (I think this year's is going to be quite fun, even before Black Friday they're giving away Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD players at Wal-Mart and Best Buys for $100! That's gotta be illegal somewhere!), Thanksgiving of course with football and "How" Indians and what have you, and the weather; I love fall/winter weather. I really think I should move to colder parts of the country, I think I would live a lot happier there, sometimes though, cold weather can get pretty sad, haha. Saints and Lakers both won over the weekend. Great game for Saints, four wins in a row (who would doubt them?!), another high passing game for Drew (smile in that photo, pal!), 445 yards! Number 1 in the NFL again. I was 3 - 1 this weekend for my predictions (still damn good, the Bucs beat the Cardinals), but I'll talk more about those over the weekend before the next games. Lakers also had an awesome, awesome game. Beat the Jazz by 10 in a very up-beat game. If they play like this for the rest of the year, it's going to be a great, great damn season. And there's no reason why they would not play like this, everyone's healthy except for Odom, and he should be back real soon! And it doesn't look like Kobe is going anywhere any time soon either. So things are really looking up down here in LA. Even the Clippers are winning! haha. And the Lakers play the Hornets (3 - 0, just beat the Nuggets) tomorrow night on FSN at 7:30, but coverage starts at 7 PM. And because Time Warner Cable doesn't have FSN HD down here in Los Angeles, they're putting it on 413, the Time Warner Cable specialty channel in HD, so check it out there. | Saturday, November 3, 2007 @ 10:00 AM PDT - Kobe's a distraction? |
|
Before I start, I just wanted to say I really wanted to get another Laker in, maybe Fish or Bynum or Vlad Rad (I made that nickname before anyone else did, it's hilarious, haha), but stupid Getty Images puts huge watermarks on their images; this one is the best one without a watermark (and is best for my headline) so I'm borrowing it for a while. Now that that's out of the way, did you see the game last night?! Hot damn that was a great game. It wasn't as exciting as those four Playoff wins in Round 1s over the past two years, because those games were predominantly close, because we just freaking smoked the Suns. It was a "role reversal", like KCAL9 said, we were the Suns and we were on fire. haha, sorry. And the best part? Not only did Odom not play, but Kobe only had 16 points. He had 16 points and we torched the Suns by 21. And the final score doesn't even show how bad the game was because Barbosa sunk a bunch of 3s near the end of it, our biggest was lead had to have been 35 somewhere in the fourth. Damn! Kobe did have a team high rebound count, but then our little Bynum started getting his and finished with 13. Fish started our huge lead in the first going 4/4 in a few minutes, followed by Kobe going from 2 points gained from two free throws to 9 points with a couple buckets. Then Vlad Rad showed up and started taking over, he ended up with the most single Laker points with 19. Other kids were looking hot too. Bynum was huge on the inside. Walton was great, but with only 3 assists. Farmer guarded Nash pretty well, but nothing too fancy. Crittenton was a little sloppy with the ball, but he did rather well too. All around, the Lakers were doing really well, 'cept for Kwame. A lot of others always bag on him, I've never liked to, but last night it was beyond obvious that Bynum is a much better player than he; Kwame didn't even jump for the ball at tip-off.... But that was a great night. After the game, Kobe was asked what he'd say to the people that thought that the Lakers could contend, that Kobe didn't need to be traded, that he could still win with the Lakers; Kobe gave the dumbest answer. He said something along the lines of he'd say nothing to them because he only focuses on his team. Oh how badly I want to believe that.
You know what's really sad? Even though the Lakers looked so great last night, it seems as if the team was purposely keeping the ball away from Kobe, almost like they wanted to prove a point. They would deliberately not give it to him because after a while, as soon as he would touch the ball he'd be double-teamed and would be stripped. So perhaps the Lakers can do really well without Kobe, but they can do even better with him, I say. It was just that a great defensive team like the Suns knew that when Kobe had the ball, he'd most probably score. But shouldn't every other team know that by now? haha. And another thing, Kobe was passing the ball. Not pointlessly like he's done in the past, but those passes actually made huge differences; I yelled at Kobe from my couch to "pass to Walton!" and he would, he heard me. It was great. They can win, they can definitely win. And this is the Suns! Number 2 last year in the West. Would've probably won a ring if it hadn't been for our ex-Laker who threw Nash down. The Suns had them Spurs. Stupid rules. And we beat those Suns. Without Odom. Overall, things were beautiful last night, and even though it probably won't be Kobe's decider to stay... eh... hopefully it'll prolong his status. And if we won that close game against the Rockets Tuesday, it would've helped that much more. We play Utah at home on Sunday night. It'll be really interesting to see how the Lakers do, how they'll come out and how they'll last. They'll still be in yellow though (or white). This season is going to be really strange. And the next time we play the Suns is on Christmas Day in LA. That's going to be a doozy. Why? Because Mike and Phil got into a row last night. Phil called a time-out after a TV time-out. D'antoni was ticked. Phil was telling him to sit the [expletive] down after Mike said that he's not worrying about it because they see each other three more times. Oooh, we're so scared. Bring it on losers.
