The 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards
Sunday, August 27, 2006
10:30 PM - So, it's been a while. I left, for those of you who showed up last week, to Seattle. I left, for those of you who showed up last week, a little note on the index of this site. I explained, for those of you who showed up last week, what was going to happen. And as most of you probably didn't show up last week, here's that page. I had fun making it - worked a lot with transparencies, but of course, for those of you who still use damn IE, it looks all stupid. Do I sound a tad bitter? Perhaps, not sure why, because there should be joy in the air. This past weekend, Conan O'Brien hosted The 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards! I didn't care much for the nominations of these television shows; in fact, the majority of them were alien to me. The sole reason for my watching of the Emmys was for Conan. I have always loved Conan - recently, it being the summer time and that this renders me able to stay up to the wee hours of the morning, I have been catching Late Night. His job of hosting the Emmys was wonderful, I thoroughly enjoyed it. His introduction was even more amazing than everything put together (which sounds strange and is really impossible as "everything" incorporates the "introduction", but that just shows how awesome his introduction was, haha) - but I'll get to that in a second. I had originally planned to post bit by bit what I had edited... but being the forgetful Asim that I am, I got rid of the file that had the cuts, and also being the lazy Asim that I am, I did not want to sit through an hour and mark down cut times. So instead, I'll send you over to The 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards page for you to choose what you want to watch. There are two clips. The first of the two is Conan's Introduction, nearly fifteen minutes long! The second is my highlights - just some things that I thought were the worthy of watching over and over again - this one spans nearly an hour - but remembering that the Emmys was a three hour show, I guess it's fine... and besides, I get attached to things much too fast. I was going to tell you what was in that hour, but like I said, I'm forgetful and lazy. Simple enough: two clips. Remember, here.

Now, back to Conan's introduction. Many people are accusing the people of NBC of being heartless, maniacal, no worth downright scoundrels. But why? Quite simply, or not, because of that crash that happened on Sunday in Kentucky. Now I don't know the facts of the crash, because I seldom watch the news, I find it rather laughable at time, but I do know that it was on the same day as the Emmys, a mere thirteen hours before. A lot of people are very offended by the Introduction of the Emmys - as most probably all award shows do, this year's Emmys featured spoofs of the things that are related to the show. This year, Conan is on a plane, flying to Los Angeles to host the Emmys... when all of a sudden, the plane loses control and crashes, and Conan is stranded on a deserted island - which in turn starts to spoof Lost, that show that people were raving about for the past two years, that by the way, was in almost no way affiliated with this year's Emmy Awards. Conan then tries to get to the Emmy Awards (a plot taken from many hosts, haha) while finding his way into other nominated shows - all of which are done very tastefully and accurately. Do you see a connection between that Introduction's plane crash and the one in Kentucky? I sure do not. Many people were angered that NBC didn't pull the plug on the introduction, or at least edit the beginning out... to totally ruin the Introduction. A one Shannonm93 and I, on IMDb, had a little discussion about the "scandal". She decided that it would've been best to have put a little disclaimer saying that NBC had cut part of Introduction in light of what has happened in Kentucky... but why would they do that if there is no relation to other plane crash? Must one plane crash force other plane footage or talks into silence? I certainly think not. That is an absurd thought. I would understand it if NBC had put Conan in a plane flying over Kentucky and then after the plane crashed he would have been fleeing the scene with a bucket of fried chicken, but in no way must NBC apologize for spoofing Lost - a very good spoof at that. Well that's what I, and many, many other's; think. Tonight's (or tomorrow morning's rather) Late Night is brand new, and I'm curious as to whether Conan remarks about it. Leno might've last night, but I was busy capturing 30 Days for you guys (which by the way, should Insha Allah be ready by tomorrow night). I'll capture Late Night tonight, just in case Conan talks about it - you guys will get the clip right away in the morning, Insha Allah. And in case he doesn't talk about it, our own Margarita went to the Emmys that night, perhaps she could bring a little insight into this topic... and even if Conan does talk about it, it'll be fun to hear about one of our own heading to the eventful night. That's all I got for you guys now, take care. see u.
