The Lakers
Monday, May 8, 2006

6:45 PM - As most of you should know, the Lakers were not able to make it to the second round, mainly because it seemed as if everyone became really bitter. I mean you have Kwame just standing around, Smush missing every shot, and Kobe losing interest all together - it was just not good. Game One went okay though, although we did lose, it was a semi-fun game. Games two through four we won, and that's where the fun really began. Every game after that, we lost, one was full of dirty plays (Game 5), one was pretty close (until overtime - Game 6) and the other, and one was just plain sad (Game 7). I've compiled (with the help of Imadul) some short clips for your viewing pleasure; I only ripped the last three games (the games in which we lost... hmm...) and Imadul ripped portions of the other ones. I'll try my best to give the clips some justice; by the way, they're all at 360x240. So let's go, shall we?

To start off, we have Game 3. Nothing incredible happened except for Kobe's dunk on Nash (after getting the ball from Odom, who was on the floor) and then getting called for a charge cos Nash stepped out of the legal area. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to render Imadul's file of this (for some odd reason), but I do have a photo from the LA Times (it was in the first post of this month) here.

Let's leave Game 3 and jump into Game 4, which people say are one of the most awesome games ever (and is the last game we won against the Suns this year). It wasn't looking to hot for us in the last couple seconds (8 seconds) of regulation; the score was 88 - 90, Suns (who just recently updated their site by the way) were in the lead and had the ball: Nash to be more specific, when Smush came right up to him, and stole the ball, passing it to George, who then passed it to Kobe making an almost impossible lay-up, tying the game, 90 - 90, going into overtime. I would've also added Kobe's game winning shot for Game 4 - but I wasn't able to download it from the server Imadul uses... damn free servers, haha. The great thing about that one was that Walton (I think it was Walton) grabbed onto the ball from Nash near the end of overtime and the ref that was nearest to them called a jump ball... even after Nash was trying to "call time-out", haha. So there was a jump ball, and Kobe got it. Again, we were down, but only by one, and Kobe shot it at the buzzer, at his "sweet spot" and then did a Jordan move with his arm, and then everyone hugged him - it was one of the best games, ever.

Game 5, however, was a very bad game, good - but bad. Let me explain. In the end we lost, but to get there, there were a lot of dirty plays. I missed the first half (cos of my Spanish class), but nothing much happened except for an awesome dunk by Kobe (which I'll put up in a second, remember I ripped all of these next ones). In the second half, Kobe "elbowed" Bell (I quote it cos it wasn't an elbow, when you watch closely, Kobe didn't even touch Bell) and then Bell... close lined Kobe. The crowd went wild with cheers (it was in Phoenix). But Kobe just got up, brushed it off, smiled, wagged his finger, gave high fives to his teammates, and Bell was thrown out of the game, and was suspended for Game 6. After this, Kobe hit an awesome three pointer. After that, however, Nash got the ball and shot a two that almost didn't go in, and when it did, Kobe did a kind of double take at Nash, haha (it's in the clip too). Kobe was later thrown out of the game for arguing with the ref, and from there, everyone just got ready for Game 6. Okay, so let's watch the clips!

Here's in the first half, when Kobe made that awesome dunk to bring the Lakers to the lead for the first time in the game. Watch the video (4MB).

Now into Game 6. With Bell suspended, Barbosa covers Kobe. Barbosa is known for his speed, not his height... and strength, so covering Kobe was no easy feat. We were sure to win, no Raja, every Laker fan and player hated the Suns, the feeling of wanting to win was there... yet we didn't. We didn't block any threes, and that's what hurt us the most against the Suns... against that damn Thomas.... Barbosa was interviewed right when the first half ended, and he just really makes you feel bad for him, haha. Just listen to him, haha. Nothing much else, lost in overtime... cos of Thomas. We could've easily won Game 6, if someone either blocked Thomas or got the last rebound, cos the score was 105 - 102, in favor of us... damn it! Just watch the clips.

Now to the final game of the round, Game 7 - the only match up that needed a Game 7 in Round 1. Bell was back, Nash hurt his ankle, and we lost... the round. We went home, and Phoenix stayed to play the next LA team, the Clippers. Watch the last videos for Lakers vs. Suns in 2006....

Nash hurt his ankle in the last minute of the first half, and was then taken out early to go work on it. Watch the video (10MB).

This next clip is quite interesting. It looks as if Bell is threatening Kobe in the fourth quarter... hm.... I find it funny that he watched Game 6 from a restaurant in LA... haha. Watch the video (1MB).

That's it. Catch Game 1 Clippers vs. Suns tonight on TNT at 7:30 PST: Phoenix home. I honestly do not think the Clippers will make it to the next round against the Suns and the man who'll probably be dubbed MVP due to winning against the Lakers: Nash, but then again, I was for sure that the Lakers would make it to at least Round 2.... Anyway, most of us are done with APs, but for those of you who aren't yet, good luck with Chemistry on Wednesday. In other interests, we have a new TV coming to our house in the next week, Insha Allah, but more on that later. I also got my XBOX Live Diamond card, with "MODENADUDE" on it, haha. I'll talk to you guys later, Insha Allah. Until then, take care. see u.
