Monday, February 27, 2006 - Week 22's Words

8:00 PM - If you're a fan of Jon Stewart, he's going to be on Larry King Live tonight at 9 PM! (if people on the East Coast rely on this site, sorry, it's 9 PM for EST and PST. Oh and Mr. Jobs is revealing a new toy for Apple tomorrow... so keep your ears pealed, I'll be watching during third period for the live keynote from Engadget (like they always do, unless they don't this time...). Oh, and my lens is on Craigslist if anyone wants to buy it. Here's the link. Okay, enough of the updates (I don't like doing them much), now for what most of you came here for (and are probably ignoring this and jumping straight to the .doc or .pdf); and of course they are always available here:

Take care you guys. see u.
Sunday, February 26, 2006 - The Killing
3:30 PM - This month is almost coming to an end, a rather short one might I add, and I have this review for you. I was able to sit down and watch the film today, after a long span of time in which I was unable to spare the time for an eighty minute movie... it usually takes me at least double, sometimes even triple, the time to take notes on a film, as I did for this one. I would call it one of Kubrick's best, and since he only made thirteen, calling it this would be quite easy.

In this film, Kubrick shows his love, and mine, of taking characters, throwing them at each other, and seeing how they react. It revolves around seven main guys planning to pull of a heist to steal a total of up to two million dollars at the racetrack on a Saturday afternoon. Kubrick's only take at this kind of a film, it almost seems un-Kubrick at first glance. But as you get into it, you see the obvious connections, especially towards the end. I would call this one of the most entertaining films ever made and recommend it to anyone, as it's quite a watch.

The review I wrote on it is pretty basic, it delves into a character description of the ten plus cast and their importance to the plot, but I decided not to give too much away in the analysis, so I basically only incorporated half of the film into the review, mostly because I would much rather you watch the film for yourself and understand its brilliance. Check it out here.

In other interests, my shirt came and the phone cover I got for my SDA didn't fit (because it's a new one that has the hump), so I'm hoping to return it. I would also like to take this opportunity and ask that if anyone is free during Spring Break (April 8 - April 16) and you would like to be an extra in a film called D-Hall set at Chatsworth High, send Kim Green in an e-mail saying Asim sent you at kimberlygreen@hotmail.com. I think that's really it except stay tuned for a new Paths of Glory/March layout, the Paths of Glory review, and Week 22's words, Insha Allah. Take care everyone. see u.
Friday, February 24, 2006 - Danish Cartoons
10:10 PM - I try to make a point by not delving too much into politics on this site [I have only done so once, off the top of my head] in hopes to better diversify the readers, even if only an average of 16 people visit per day. Yet, I believe that all people must resort to discussing what they had hoped not to at one point, so I will discuss the very old cartoons depicting Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) in the Danish newspapers. Why did I decide to break the political silence on this site to discuss this? Well, since you are reading a site owned, designed, maintained, et cetera, by a Muslim - well, it's pretty much self explanatory, haha.

I want to first go into what the whole big deal is. Freedom of Speech. What is it? Well, basically it’s the outlawing of censorship, and is very, very important; I myself rely on it heavily. This site is composed from the right to free speech (except for the comments that I've already stated, if become too offensive to me or a family, will be deleted - but I have become somewhat lenient towards that), and because of this, I am able to discuss all the illegal things that occur on the internet or discuss or say whatever the heck hell I want (and if by doing so I have to illegally distribute a video file aired on TV, so be it). But if the right to freedom of speech is so damn obvious, why is there all this commotion? Basically, religious sensitives. But I'll touch on them later.

Wednesday, February 22, 2006 - Amendment IX
10:30 PM - As of now, the Juniors have finished that requirement we had to do in order to graduate. The Juniors at SOCES had to do a little presentation about one of the amendments from the Bill of Rights (US) for the Eighth Graders of the same period. My group (Adam, Bill, Jonathan, Marc and I) did a silent film for Amendment IX from the United States Constitution. Although the Eighth Graders, being the pea-brained idiots that they are, paid attention, I doubt they enjoyed it... or even understood it. But I hope this internet crowd is a bit more sophisticated. There are some bloopers/out takes that I plan to edit and throw on here by then end of the week, Insha Allah, so stay tuned for that. Directed by me and edited by Bill, starring all five of us, Fostacla Films presents: Amendment IX.

In other interests, I got that Jackie Chan/Pepsi commercial that I missed over Super Bowl XL and threw it onto the Commercial Page. Although I am very much a Coke head, this commercial was very well made. That's it - see u.
Monday, February 20, 2006 - T-Mobile SDA
8:10 PM - My last birthday present has finally arrived. So it was 11 AM, I was minding my own business downloading Sunday's episode of "60 Minutes" (which I plan on throwing a segment onto here tomorrow, Insha Allah) when I see the UPS truck across the street. I think, "Can it be...?" while I see him walking away from my driveway. I quickly get to my feet and rush to the front door. From there, I became still, peaking slowly through the window to see a box... nothing; I open the door slightly... nothing; I walk outside... nothing. "What the hell, what'd the UPS guy drop off?" I quickly thought, until I realized it was probably not the UPS guy, but instead a terrorist planting a bomb in my front yard, and I was about to run in and call the authorities until I saw a box, behind the couch; my gift had come.

What a great opening to a story, don't you think? haha. Well anyways, I took that box into my room to take some shots, here they are. But you must be asking yourself... how freaking amazing is this phone? Very. The first sound that came out of my mouth after I opened the box was, "Wah-hoe" - the super "Woah". I later said, "Dayy-um" after I looked it over some more. To start, the screen is magnificent - I haven't seen one ever this well pulled off. It reminded me of the TM150 - another T-Mobile branded phone, and I thought to myself, T-Mobile branded is definitely the way to go. This is originally the HTC Tornado - but both Cingular and T-Mobile got their hands on it, Cingular branded theirs the Cingular 2125 and T-Mobile the T-Mobile SDA. I personally prefer Cingular's take on the design - but I didn't want to get into the whole mess of trouble I did last year with my MPx220.

Anyway, this phone has a lot! It is a dedicated MP3 Player, with three dedicated buttons; it's a dedicated surfer as it has Wi-Fi built in (I was able to connect to my home network to get transfer speeds up at 800Kbps!) so it can also connect to T-Mobile Hot Spots, as well as EDGE capable sporting a nice looking hump on top. The camera on this isn't the best, but most are probably not going to use the camera if they own this phone. Since it is a dedicated MP3 player, the audio is impeccable; I'll say it beats my monitor's on board speakers. It also comes with real ear buds so you can listen to your music, but also when talking to people, hear them in your head... it's a trip. I didn't get a chance to check out the video quality on Windows Media Player 10, but I'm almost positive it's amazing because the color on this phone is beautiful. Check out the pictures a hands on experience, I apologize for the hair on the floor in advance, haha.

In other interests, here are Week 21's Words. But I do hope that if you're taking the words, that you do read/look at the pictures of this phone - it might change your life.

I couldn't get The Killing review done, mainly because I've become sick and I do not want to watch a Kubrick film while sick. By Wednesday, I plan on bringing you guys that Pepsi Commercial from Super Bowl XL, as well as the "60 Minutes" clip of Sunday's show, in case you missed it, I think it's important - I'd do it for tomorrow, but tomorrow I'll be swamped. Oh, and I decided to keep the watch to make my mom happy. I hope that as you guys look back on your three day weekend that you enjoyed it and found it well spent. Talk to you guys later. see u.

Friday, February 17, 2006 - Yesterday I Turned 17!
7:10 PM - I don't usually use the exclamation point, but yesterday I turned 17 at 7:35 PM (about 24 hours ago). I got some new things this year. Firstly, I got that Canon 350d a couple months ago as an early birthday present; secondly I got some cool stuff from my parents as well as Sonia and Robyn. Insha Allah next week, I'm also getting the T-Mobile (HTC) SDA in the mail, so I'll obviously take pictures of that as my gift continuation.

This year, my birthday was just as I wanted it to be; relaxing and only spending it with the people that I'm not sick of, and then going to Pierce and taking a Spanish test - haha. I got a lot of happy birthdays yesterday, basically due to Imadul's constant barrage of announcements to everyone that it's my birthday, haha. I got a few things, but I'm not a person who begs for gifts, I'm fine with what I have. But I did get some cool things - so check out my little collection of photos here. Also there, I say farewell to my Motorola MPx220 since next week it'll be put on the shelf next to my other rejected old phones.

Thanks to everyone who wished me a "Happy Birthday", either in person, e-mails, texts, or comments on this site. This weekend I plan to Insha Allah bring you guys a review of The Killing. Next month's review of Paths of Glory may not be as amateur thanks to Sonia's gift. Take care everyone. see u.
Monday, February 13, 2006 - Week 20's Words

10:00 PM - The words are coming a bit late, mainly due to the fact that I just came home, (well I got home at around nine something, but I started working on this right afterwards). I just came back from a meeting. I am officially an intern for Meadowknoll Productions, on their next film, D-Hall. I'll be hopefully working on many things, but I'm probably going to focus around the graphic design (of that site). I also am hoping I will be able to stay on set as much as I can and also aid in both pre and post production. I'll let you guys know what goes on as soon as (or a little after rather) I know. Here's the words, but of course, they are also available here.

Enjoy them you guys. see u.

Saturday, February 11, 2006 - Antigone
7:30 PM - Alright, so it's been a while since I've talked to you guys, or wrote to you guys, or you guys reading from me; however you want to take it. Should I explain? Well, Pierce classes started Tuesday, my fourth year taking Spanish, and I'm still in Spanish 2. Don't laugh, it can happen to anyone. It meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is the main reason I haven't been showing up to this site (and also the main reason my car was freaking dirty [cos they have us park in the dirt area when the parking lot overflows], so dirty in fact, some kids [not sure whom yet] at school decided to write "Awsome Dude" on my car, and a guy playing the trumpet, haha; here's a photo).

Anyway, Antigone is being performed at our school (Sherman Oaks CES) from Thursday, February 9 through Sunday, February 12, 2006. You missed three of the four days (tonight is sold out, so there was no way to sit at that one), so if you want to go, tomorrow at 2 PM is your chance, seven bucks. The play has a cultic feeling and was very surreal, so I hope everyone will enjoy it. We [Marc, Robyn, Margaret, Kyle, David, and I] went last night, and I took my Canon 350d with me, it's first night on the 'town' cos my memory card came Monday (I didn't get to update, sorry). I of course took pictures, but considering that it was my first time with it, not all of the pictures came out perfect. I went for Sonia, so all the pictures basically revolve around her, check out the 'shoot' here. The whole story that happened last night are in the page's captions, so have fun reading that. Now that I use my 350d, the pictures will be differently sized than the P600, cos of the sensor size difference, they will be the equivalency of a wide angle TV, you could say, a 1:1.5 ratio.

I guess that's really all I have to say. If you're going to go watch the play, enjoy it, and I also hope you enjoy the photos. Take care everyone. see u.
Monday, February 6, 2006 - Week 19's Words

9:10 PM - I almost forgot about these words guys, mainly because I just did them like four days ago, damn day off. Well here are Week 19's Words:

.doc | .pdf

Also - My memory card came in the mail today, I'll post up some pictures tomorrow, along with some test pics of my new camera. Take care everyone, see u.
Sunday, February 5, 2006 - Super Bowl XL Commercials
10:40 PM - Super Bowl XL concluded just a few hours ago, and I had a handful of commercials to throw at you guys (about ten) - but at the beginning of the second half, PeerGuardian went haywire and stopped my computer from ripping anything, and it semi-froze, so I was forced to illegally shutdown my computer, losing the two something hours I had recorded earlier - bummer. It really depressed me, and the craziest thing was, right before I started ripping, I thought I should disable my connection to my network, but I didn't - but hey, you gotta move on.

Anyway, I wasn't really looking forward to this game, nor to its commercials really. I wasn't really rooting for any side - so I was able to look at it as most impartial fans named Asim would, I found every flaw that each side had - haha. I'm not going to go into that now (except for that ass move by Ben 'long last name' Roethlisberger on their first TD or the stupid play calls by the Seahawks at the end of the first half), but I will discuss some follow up commercials from last year. Do you guys remember that monkey commercial about the guy working with "a bunch of monkeys"? Well there was a follow up to that, two actually. And a follow up Go Daddy commercial (which I have trusted with my domains and hosting for my clients since May 2002). They also had a great Diet Pepsi ad with Jackie Chan and Diet Pepsi as his sidekick, and when it needed a stunt double, they used Diet Coke; I'm a Coke head myself, but that was hilarious. And of course, I couldn't get any of those... damn. Well, enjoy the ones that I was able to rip by going to the Commercial Page. see u.
Thursday, February 2, 2006 - Week 18's Words and New Lens
3:30 PM - Okay, so my lens came yesterday and I have Week 18's words up for tomorrow's test. So if you want them (the words), you know how to get them, either go here or below:

.doc | .pdf

Also - something I noticed, that you may have as well. Mr. Carroll went from "Feasible" directly to "Feign", skipping right over "Feces". I thought it might be a bit humorous that since Mr. Carroll didn't put feces on our paper, I'd do you guys all a favor and put it on there myself.

Now, as I said above, my Canon 50mm f/1.8 came through UPS yesterday, and I put some pics up that can be accessed here. And no, the memory card is still not here.

Oh and also - they have the new cast for Harry Potter 5 chosen - check it out here. One more thing, IMDb has a new feature which takes Television shows and breaks it down into specific episodes. So it's an episode guide and has details on each episode, just like a regular IMDb page - epguides.com is obsolete. Have fun, guys. see u.
Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - New Month, New Layout, New Crap
12:01 AM - You guys like the new layout? I tried to make it as 1956-ish as possible. Why? Mainly due to the fact that this month's film, The Killing, came out in 1956. I will Insha Allah have a review of that film - Which I'm really looking forward to because it is a great film. But let's talk about that film later on in the month. First, let's get down to business. My car.

I was entering my car today, just after reading a note random note from Gina, Devon, Nicole, and Julian about something - I didn't read it thoroughly, and noticed to my right... two wads of bird crap. Here's a picture. Well I got home, as fast as I could (a record six minutes) and cleaned it off. Here's a picture of it afterwards. And no lens, so let's hope it comes later today, since it is in Ontario as of 7:12 PM last night. I'll of course have pictures, Insha Allah, when that comes, and test photos after the Lexar 80x shows up. Alright guys, enjoy the new old looking layout. Oh, and also, I have Adobe Premiere Pro 2, so if you want it, let me know, see u.
