| Friday, August 15, 2008 @ 5:10 PM PDT - THIS JUST IN: WB sucks! |
|
Why, Warner Bros., why? The company that owns all the great Kubrick movies, why must you hurt us? We went to your Batman movie way more times than necessary these past few weeks, giving you the third-most ( very soon to be second-most) highest grossing film ever, but you still stab us in the back! Why are you doing this to us WB, why? We have been so loyal! You have the best theme park in Los Angeles, you have the best cable service in Los Angeles, you're headquartered in the best city in the world, you have the best TV channels, you got all you want, why must you anger us?! Because you guys are all damn greedy bastards, that's why.
Most of you may already know that those rotten scoundrels at Warner Bros. decided to push Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince's release date back, all the way to... July 17, 2009. July! That's almost a full year from now! We were all anticipating the November release in just a few months: you released a beautiful trailer, showed that trailer before a couple movies (including the new Star Wars animated thing that came out today), announced a few days ago the international release dates, arranged the world premiere in Britain, have the game all ready to be distributed in November, but yesterday you announce you want to delay the movie for another year? And what was your excuse, WB? Was it that the movie wasn't complete yet? That you needed more time to finish the special effects so as to give us, the people who will make your company even richer, the best entertainment possible? Nope. That cannot be further from the truth. You've been telling us for weeks the movie's one hundred percent complete. Even yesterday you said that you saw it and you loved it.
So what is it? Why did you make the world bellow in pain yesterday? You said it was because WB is "still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike". Wow. That's the reason you're delaying this huge blockbuster movie, that is already complete, because of the writers' strike? All lies. You know damn well that this movie was not affected by the strike. You want to release it next year because you think other studios won't have so many movies next year due to the strike, and you'll get all their money. You changed the date because you guys want to bank on the movie! You're releasing it on the same weekend as you released The Dark Knight, for [expletive] sake! And don't give us that crap that " we love our fans". BS. If you loved us, you would make the movies free and have Dan, Rupert, and Emma deliver copies to our front doors. You love money, that's what you love. There's nothing wrong with loving money, of course – you are, obviously, a greedy studio, not unlike other studios before you – but don't tell us you're doing what's best for us by delaying it for another year. Tell us that you want more money in your pockets and that you don't care if it pisses anyone off. It won't make us any happier, but at least you won't be such assholes. Damn.

| Wednesday, August 13, 2008 @ 10:35 PM PDT - Spontaneity. |
|
First of all, it took me forever to figure out how to spell "spontaneity", I'm still recovering from learning the verb form of the word. Second of all, I half-didn't even want to title this post "spontaneity" because it reminded me so much of the movie Serendipity, and while I have nothing against that movie ( Click was coincidentally on Encore today and Kate Beckinsale is as beautiful as ever in it), that word always bugged me. But I thought "spontaneity" described my last couple of days pretty well, so I decided it would serve as a perfect title to this post. Oh and by the way, this paragraph was completely unnecessary.
My story begins a few days ago, on Friday the 8th at a little after 8 PM (if you stop and look at that, it happened on 8.8.08 at 8 PM!). I was with Josue and Carie at The Habit Grill next to the Pacific Theatres in Winnetka, about an hour before seeing Pineapple Express. If you haven't experienced either of those things, The Habit Grill and Pineapple, go. The burger place is great and the movie is simply spectacular. Anyway, we're sitting there in the corner of the packed dining area, waiting for our number to be called so we can go pick up our food. Those two are talking about how amazing it is to attend a UC and discussing that all other colleges besides UCs are horrible places to learn. Not wanting to join into such a disrespectful conversation, I take my phone out and check my e-mail: I have a new message from USC. Now, if you don't already know, I was [gratefully] accepted to USC [as a transfer] a few weeks ago, the letter was waiting for me when I came back from my epic, three-week, ten-thousand-mile journey around America. Since then, the school's been sending me periodic e-mails and letters about a number of things, from financial aid to classes, job fairs to housing, some of which are re-sent numerous times for no apparent reason; this particular e-mail was about housing, something they had yet to send me any information about. The e-mail stated, to my surprise, I got USC housing.
I say "to my surprise" because when I was first accepted to the college, I started my housing application right away. The only problem was, the due date for the application was a few weeks before I even received my acceptance letter in the mail. They sent my, and many other transfer students', acceptance letters way too late. I was sure that getting housing on campus was completely out of the question, so I had already accepted the fact that I would be forced to commute. But that e-mail I got at Habit proved me wrong and, subsequently, changed everything. They were offering me a room in the Trojan Hall, the e-mail said. It was a double, which means I would be sharing my dorm with another student. In my housing application, I specifically listed apartments as my primary choices of living, I did not want to pay to live in a room smaller than the one I live in at home. But they were probably giving me this Trojan Hall dorm because some guy had canceled recently, and I was the person filling in for him, so I understood why my choices were no where near considered.

| Thursday, August 7, 2008 @ 4:45 PM PDT - Monday Night Football!! |
|
It's Thursday! So why is there a Monday Night Football game tonight (at 5PM!)? Because sports are played by a bunch of dumb jocks, so the people who organize the games have to be just as dumb, if not dumber. I'm joking of course, we all know all athletes are road scholars. Having Monday Night Football kick off on a Thursday was probably some last second decision made in order to celebrate the end (or beginning) of this huge Brett Favre story that has been plaguing us these last few weeks. That is, of course, what Jaws, Tony, and Mike will be focusing on tonight – Tony hates exhibition games, haha. I miss his completely obvious written routines he does, let's hope we get one tonight!
Anyway, there will be a perfectly dramatic game going on below, Sedrick Ellis (and Reggie Bush) versus Matt Leinart, but their topic of discussion will be Favre and the Jets. I, on the other hand, will be glued to the set watching my New Orleans Saints take on the Arizona Cardinals in one of the coolest-looking stadiums ever built (I should know, I was there last month!). While Drew, and his goatee, won't be out there for longer than a quarter (he's going to be great this season no matter what, he doesn't need too much exhibition game practice), let's hope Reggie, Pierre, and Meachem look good. I would add three more guys to that list, but a lot of starters won't play tonight due to injuries. Deuce, as we all know, is coming back from a torn ACL injury, so while he needs to get back on the field, he apparently needs a bit of rest tonight because he's out; Shockey has only been a Saint for two weeks and has recovered from a leg fracture, but he will also miss tonight (I'm most bummed about that one); Colston needs to prove to us that his second year was no fluke, that he's going to come back and be Drew's go-to-guy again, but he too will miss tonight because of a knee injury. But none of that is all too shocking, it's exhibition. The important thing is, Sean says these guys (and a small list of others) will all be ready to practice on Saturday. But tonight, let's hope Reggie, Pierre, and Meachem look good. Reggie needs to learn how to hold onto the ball and how to put his shoulder down and just bulldoze over those fat defenders (why else do you have those beautifully, huge muscles, Reginald?), Pierre looked good in the final games last year after taking over for Reggie and Deuce, he'll probably be the back-up to Deuce if they throw Reggie into the stuff they threw him into two years ago, and Meachem has to prove to us that he can be that great first-round wide reciever we drafted him for after missing his rookie season last year due to his knee surgery. We do have a lot of what-ifs, don't we?

| Friday, August 1, 2008 @ 7:45 PM PDT - Year 6 |
|
It's August! I don't know how else to start this post other than by saying, "It's August!", so that's all you'll get from me. I probably should remark on my absence that lasted almost two weeks, it was due to Mamma Mia!, I just couldn't get enough of it! No, no. I don't want to do that one again. I don't want to act again like I saw the movie. The first paragraph I wrote for the last post gave me too many nightmares. If you seriously thought I went to go see that horrible crap, you are out of your freaking mind. But if were brave enough to read the second paragraph (to those who didn't: damn cowards), you would have found out that I was completely joking and that the post turned out to be a discussion about how well The Dark Knight did, and will continue to do. If you did quit reading (damn coward) then stop reading this and go read the other post, and ne'er return. I'm joking, come back!
Anyway, yesterday was day fourteen of The Dark Knight in theatres, and all I can say is, Wow. $351 million. It has broken almost every record possible so far, and it completely deserves it. I went last Wednesday to see it with Ima and Jo, and man, it was amazing – best movie of the year, hands down. But as I said, it's been breaking all the records, the latest being the fastest movie to hit the $350 million mark. The Dark Knight did it in fourteen days; the movie now in second place, Pirates 2, did it in twenty-two. That's more than a week difference! The next milestone The Dark Knight wants to hit is the $400 million mark, a domestic figure only five movies in history can boast. The record for that baby is forty-three days held by Shrek 2. Forty-three days! That means The Dark Knight has a little less than a month to make $50 million more. Are there any doubts that it won't reach that mark the quickest? It could break the record this weekend in fact; getting pulled out of a hundred theatres will hardly do the movie any damage. Last weekend, it broke the record for highest grossing second weekend, originally held by Shrek 2's $72 million, with the new record of $75 million. If it wants to break the highest grossing third weekend, it will have to make more than $45 million, currently held by Spider-Man. If The Dark Knight ends up matching that record, it will be within $4 million of breaking the $400 million mark, and will definitely be breaking the record on Monday, its eighteenth day. But, of course, if The Dark Knight blows Spider-Man's record out of the water, which we all hope it will; we'll be looking at the fastest movie to hit $400 million by day seventeen, a full twenty-six days ahead of Shrek 2. I don't know why I'm rooting for the horribly rich production companies to get more money, but damn, is this exciting or what? It's got a lot of competition this weekend of course, Mummy 3 opens to almost 3,800 theatres, and while it will probably suck, it may push The Dark Knight down to the number two spot in this week's numbers (but not on IMDb!). If I'll have it my way, The Dark Knight will be in first, followed by Step Brothers in second – that movie is damn, damn hilarious. Way better than Batman, right?!
